Welcome to About Lichen Planus
If you've recently been diagnosed with lichen planus, you're not alone. Learn why we created About Lichen Planus and what you'll find here.
Start Here: Understanding Lichen Planus
Why Is Lichen Planus So Difficult to Diagnose?
If you've spent months searching for answers, receiving conflicting diagnoses, or trying to make sense of symptoms that don't seem to fit together, you are not alone. In this special launch episode, Dr. Erin Foster joins us to discuss why lichen planus is often misunderstood, what patients need to know, and how self-advocacy can help you move forward with greater confidence.
Brought to you by the LichenS Support Network
Built by the team behind the former Lichen Sclerosus Support Network, a patient advocacy organization dedicated to helping people navigate chronic inflammatory skin and mucosal conditions. We partner with experienced healthcare professionals to provide trusted education, practical resources, and real-world support.
Lichen planus doesn’t stay on your skin. It shows up in every single part of your life.
The 2 AM Search Spiral
Spending late hours looking for answers online because office visits are short and there is still so much we don't know about this condition.
The Uncertainty Loop
Second-guessing every new sensation, wondering if a sudden change means your condition is changing or if you are experiencing a new flare-up.
The Care Puzzle
Trying to connect the dots between different specialists who do their best, but often work in separate clinics, leaving you to connect the pieces.
“You have been doing the heavy lifting alone for too long. You do not have to figure this out by yourself anymore.”
This is exactly why LSSN exists.
An Essential Reassurance: Lichen Planus is Completely Non-Contagious
Lichen planus is an inflammatory condition driven by a confused immune response, not an active infection. It is absolutely non-contagious, meaning it can never be passed to a sexual partner, family members, or children.
For years I thought I was the only person dealing with this. Finding accurate, easy-to-understand info and realizing I wasn't just failing to manage my health changed everything.

LSSN Research Initiative
Help make the patient experience impossible to ignore.
For too long, people living with lichen planus have been left to navigate delayed diagnoses, painful symptoms, conflicting medical advice, and unanswered questions on their own.
We're collecting real patient histories to help researchers, healthcare providers, and advocates better understand the clinical signs, daily symptoms, and diagnostic realities of life with lichen planus.
The results will be compiled into a public patient experience report designed to accelerate early diagnosis, improve treatment options, and increase awareness of this condition.
Takes about 35 minutes • Completely secure and anonymous • HIPAA-compliant framework
Once we collect 100 verified profiles, we will launch our patient experience report to improve treatment options.
Where is lichen planus affecting you?
Lichen planus can affect the mouth, skin, scalp, nails, and genital tissues. Explore the patterns patients commonly experience and learn which specialists typically diagnose and treat each subtype.
